Over the last few weeks, children in year 2 have been making observational studies of various natural materials. They worked in charcoal to create some observational drawings and then they used their drawings to create 3D models.
The children learned to roll out their clay to remove all the air bubbles and then they began to assemble their pieces. Some children chose to create leaves, others chose to create flowers and twigs. We used a series of tools to help carve detailed lines into the clay sculptures. Once the clay sculptures dry, the children will be adding paint to them and a light glaze to give them a shine.
The clay sculptures will be assembled to create a gruffalo trail. Stay tuned for more updates and check out the photos below of the children working on their sculptures.
