This week, we took part in a delightful geography focused parent workshop. It was fantastic to see so many of your parents there and we hope they enjoyed themselves!
We began by taking part in an activity to help us understand the unequal distribution of food in the world. We learnt how many people live on earth and how many live in the UK.
We then went on to learn that one billion people in our world live on less than £1.20 per day and do not get enough food to be healthy and lead an active life. They are undernourished and often sick. Many of their children will never attend primary school and will be forced to work in dangerous conditions. Some of them will die of hunger this year.
In our groups, we discussed questions such as:
Do you think this is a fair distribution of food?
How do you feel about the way the food is shared?
What could be done to make it fairer?
What could we do to help the less fortunate in the world?
After much discussion, we decided we wanted to help by holding a charity event here at Monteagle! In groups, we completed charity proposals and pitched our ideas to the class teacher.
We will keep you posted on the event chosen which will take place next term! Best of luck Year 5! For now, please take a look at some photos from the parent workshops below.
