“What an amazing day!” These words were spoken by a Year 4 pupil at the end of our Saxon Day.
Year 4 travelled back in time and spent the morning in a Saxon village. Whilst in the village, the children took on the roles of Saxons working at various jobs. These jobs included: making medicines with the Wise Woman, candle making, creating clay runes and sewing bags to keep the runes in, weaving fabric and making rope bracelets, making clay moulds, making ink and writing messages in runes. It was a busy morning where the children learnt through role play and activities what it was like to be a Saxon.
In the afternoon, the children became archaeologists and used dig boxes to excavate Saxon artefacts.
We would like to thank ‘History Off the Page’ and the parents who helped to make the day such a memorable one.
