The children have had a fantastic, well settled and calm week entering Year One. It has been great to see so many smiling faces coming into school every day. The children have been learning all the new routines of Year One, including the playground rules and going to separate halls for ‘family dining’ at lunchtime. Ms. Rider has told Year One that they have been amazing in both dining rooms and she is very impressed with their behaviour around this new challenge.
In class, the pupils have enjoyed reading ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ by Roald Dahl. The story has been a little bit scary and very funny! Year One really enjoyed helping Mrs. Latchford create their very own Enormous Crocodile with green hand prints. The children also used their maths skills to make smaller crocs with 2D shapes. The teachers were all impressed with the cutting and sticking skills displayed by the children.
The children have been doing lots of writing this week all about ‘Argh! Spider!’. Everyone has written questions to the spider and lists have been made about the spider’s house. Year One have also been using the words ‘more’ and ‘less’ in maths to describe different amounts. In their curriculum work, the students were visited by Professor Spark who asked the children all about their brains. He also found out about all the different ways that the children in Year One like to learn. The children then designed their perfect classroom to help Spark with his research.
We have all had a great week settling back into school and everyone is really excited for the rest of Year One!
