This week, some of the children in Phoenix have started reading ‘Don’t Put Your Finger in the Jelly Nelly!’
What a great introduction the children have had before actually reading the story. First, the children were shown the book’s front cover and were asked, “What can you see?” (jelly/ finger). Then, the children learnt how to sign ‘jelly’ via Makaton. Next, the children explored their sense of touch and sight- a pile of jelly was available for them to poke/touch/and handle. Some children explored the jelly with their feet by stepping in/ and scrunching their toes. key vocabulary included: wobbly, squishy, sticky, slippery, slimy and smooth. Finally, the children explored their sense of smell and taste; the descriptive language included: sweet, fruity and yummy!
Child one: Jelly!
Child two: The jelly is sticky!
Child three: Wobbly jelly!
To end the activity, the children sang ‘Wibble Wobble Jelly on the plate.’
