In our lessons this week, we have been focussing on being really hands on and completing practical activities. Although the weather has been cold, and rather windy at times, it has not stopped us from being creative in our learning.
Here are some pictures of some of the fun things we been learning about this week:
In one class, the children were making some bird feeders to hang outside their window. The children had to make holes in a small bottle and fill it with the bird seeds. Then, they took their homemade bird feeder outside and needed to find a way to hang it up so the birds could see it and swoop down to have a meal. If they do, the children will be able to see the birds feeding up close, which will be really lovely to see.
In another class, the children explored different and familiar objects from around the classroom, such as, plastic toys, fabric, wooden cars, and metal cutlery. Then, the children matched each object with the correct name cards. They really liked looking at each object and matching it in the correct way. this was a very hands on lesson!
In some of the smaller classes, the children were making all sorts of sounds with different musical instruments. They had to bang things together, and hit sticks onto other wooden instruments. It was very loud but they loved making different sounds they don’t usually have the chance to make.
In the afternoon, the other smaller classroom were sorting through healthy and unhealthy foods and placing them into the correct categories. They did very well to categories the foods and needed little help to do so.
One child wanted to practise baking in her class in the afternoon, so the teacher was able to find all the things she needed to bake. The child had to make the dough first, then roll it out to a nice thin layer of dough. Once that was all completed, she used some dough cutters to make patterns from her dough. She thoroughly enjoyed this activity and really wanted to continue for the rest of the day.
Finally, the last class had a fantastic time in P.E this week playing ball games. The main game this week was basketball. The children were each given a ball and were asked to try throwing it into the hoop that was high above their heads. All the children took part and had a real good go at it. Some even achieved it and got the ball through the hoop. It was such a thrilling lesson.
