This week has been Mental Health Week at school where we have been completing tasks to do with our mental health, as well as our feelings and how to stay calm and more thoughtful. The children have been completing some lovely activities this week linked to mental health. Here are some examples of what our Phoenix children have been completing this week:
Some of the children were looking at online safety in their lessons for Mental Health week and the effect the online world can have on children and young adults. The children had to listen carefully to some online safety advice from a short story, then give advice of their own as one of the characters, whose names are; Digiduck, Wise_Owl and Eagle_Owl. The children listened really well and gave excellent advice as the character. They gave advice such as; “Always ask for help if something pops up the screen“, and “Keep passwords to yourself and do not share them out with your friends”.
Another class has been painting caterpillars and butterflies, then covering the caterpillar’s body with things that each child would like to learn or like to be able to do in the future, such as; riding a bike independently or writing my own name correctly. They then turned to the butterfly, covering each corner of their wings with things that they have learnt this year, such as; climbing up high on the P.E climbing apparatus, or tying their shoelace. The children loved painting their bugs, as you can see on their faces from the pictures below.
In one of the other classes, the children are improving their calming and patience ability by attempting to grow cress. They needed to find a suitable place for the seeds to be placed, which was a small pot filled with water soaked cotton wool. The children had to add more water to the seeds to help them grow, and left them in a dry place where they will absorb plenty of sunlight. Again, the children loved completing this task and can’t wait to see the outcome of their growing activity. Hopefully the cress grows nice and tall for the children to see.
