This week children have been reading the book, ‘Binny’s Diwali’. This book is a heartwarming story about a little girl, ‘Binny’ and her excitement to talk to her class all about her favourite festival, ‘Diwali- Festival of lights’. In the beginning, Binny struggles to express herself and find the words but after taking a deep breath and mustering up her confidence, she is able to share her Diwali celebrations. She tells all about the amazing fireworks display, making Rangoli patterns, and shows handmade clay lamps known as, ‘Diyas’. All her classmates enjoy the, ‘pedas and jalebis’- traditional Indian sweets, which Binny shares with them and are absolutely awed after listening about Binny’s awesome and amazing Diwali celebrations.
Binny’s Diwali book, inspired our reception children to participate in a variety of Diwali activities. Children enjoyed listening to the traditional story of Rama and Sita, which explains the tradition about how all the Hindus began to celebrate Diwali. All the reception children did phonics and fine motor activity based on Diwali theme, created their own Rangoli patterns and also made some glittery Diyas. Take a look at the photos which show how all our reception year children enthusiastically participated in their learning.
This week was full of amazing activities and was indeed a ‘truly fun filled learning week’!
