This week reception children have been reading, “The Rainbow Fish”, an award winning story written by Marcus Pfister. Many children have commented that this is their most favourite story read so far!   As part of their learning this week, reception children did lots of creative activities, writing, drawing, colouring and counting activities focused around the rainbow fish story. Children were so much inspired by the story of the rainbow fish that they even created their own mini storybooks about the rainbow fish and her friends (sea creatures). Children also learnt about the various character virtues of caring, sharing, perseverance, fairness and all about being a good friend. They also learnt about the feelings of the rainbow fish.

We now know that, when the rainbow fish didn’t share his scales he had no friends, but when he learnt to share and care, all became his friends and he never felt lonely anymore!

For mathematics activity, children have been learning to recognise, match numerals to quantities and build towers in order from 1 to 5. They have been learning to draw their attention to the fact that when the ‘numeral jumps’ from one Numberblock to the next are sometimes more than 1, then something(numeral) must be missing!

Overall, this week was full of varied activities with loads of learning along with lots of fun.

Do take a look at our photos which shows how busy and creative we have been!
