Another busy week in art and DT this week.
Year 1 had a fantastic experiments with a variety of media, learning about the different properties and how easy or hard different effects are to achieve with them. They also considered composition of abstract art, referring to the artist Renata Bernal (check out http://renatabernal.com/ for more information), by considering where to place overlapping 2d shapes, ensuring they had contrast between types of shapes. They continued to consider contrast by ensuring adjacent colours were different as well as the type of media used, along with some also considering the pattern and texture.
Year 2 continued to learn about vehicles, this time about how axles can be used with wheels and the different ways in which they can be attached to a chassis.
Year 3 experimented and investigated the properties of different sturdy materials for the frame of their greenhouses discovering that each had different advantages and disadvantages when used in this particular construction. They also investigated materials for transparent sections between the frame to allow light through, considering which may be most suitable for their design brief. They also considered various adhesive possibilities of different glues, tapes and clays.
Year 4 continued to learn about pneumatics (https://kids.kiddle.co/Pneumatics)
Year 5 finished the main woodwork section of their moving toy project, all safely and successfully creating a frame for their cam toys.
Year 6 continued to develop their understanding of bridge construction by combining a deck with a zigzagged cross section with trusses to disperse the weight along the length of the structure. Some children were able to create bridges that held the weight expected even before trusses were attached.
