Year 6 have begun learning the song ‘Something Inside So Strong’ written by British singer-songwriter, poet and activist, Labi Siffre. The children learnt about the history of the song, and how Labi Siffre wrote the song as an Anti-Apartheid song back in 1987 to help the people of South Africa to be strong and resilient in the face of great adversity. They also learnt how the song won Labi Siffre an Ivor Novello Award for being the best song both musically and lyrically.
They listened to a version of the song sung by British gospel choir, ‘The Spirtuals’ before learning the lyrics and a glockenspiel instrumental. Watch below to see how well we are getting on with our instrumentals so far!
