This week in reception, we have been in the wonderful world of literature, specifically exploring the well-loved children’s book “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” by Eric Carle.
The children thoroughly enjoyed engaging in a variety of different activities centered around this beloved story. They eagerly participated in painting sessions, where they let their imaginations run wild and created beautiful artwork around the book.
Additionally, they showed great creativity in making masks and models, bringing the characters from the story to life.
One highlight of the week was the exciting teddy bear hunt, where the children worked together to search for hidden teddy bears around the classroom. This hands-on activity not only brought joy and excitement, but also helped develop their observation and problem-solving skills.
Furthermore, the reception class embraced their dramatic side by creating role-play experiences based on the story. They used their imaginations to act out different scenes, taking on the roles of the various animals and characters they encountered in the book. This imaginative play allowed them to develop their communication and social skills while deepening their understanding of the narrative.
As part of our commitment to supporting charitable initiatives, we also celebrated Red Nose Day this week. It was a day filled with fun, laughter, and some truly hilarious hair styles! The children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to express themselves creatively while contributing to such a worthy cause.
However, the absolute highlight of the week was our cress-growing project. The children eagerly planted cress seeds and closely monitored their growth. They were fascinated by the rapid development and transformation of the tiny seeds into flourishing cress. Next week, we look forward to tasting their homegrown cress, which will provide a fantastic opportunity to further explore the concepts of growth, healthy eating, and senses.
Overall, it has been a week of immense learning and enjoyment in reception. The children’s engagement with “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” has sparked their curiosity, imagination, and creativity. They have developed important skills through various activities, deepened their understanding of the story, and gained a sense of accomplishment from their cress-growing project.
