Day 2: The Year 6 Adventure at Trewern
Day two of our Year 6 trip to Trewern did not disappoint! In a shocking twist of fate, every child somehow managed to sleep like logs—so much so that our staff had to knock on doors to coax them out of their slumber at 7 AM. Clearly, the promise of breakfast was the only thing powerful enough to rouse them!
After a delightful breakfast, we were impressed by our young helpers on duty, who stepped up to wash dishes, sweep floors, and tackle the chaos. Parents, take note: these kids might just be ready for chores back home!
Today was packed with four thrilling activities. First up was tunneling through an old railway tunnel in pitch darkness—a true test of trust and bravery (and a great way to channel your inner mole). Next, we took on gorge walking, where sliding down waterfalls was a definite highlight—definitely a step up from the serene streets of Dagenham!
Back on site, our adventurers tackled rock climbing and bushcraft. They learned essential survival skills like starting fires, building shelters, and—most importantly—cooking popcorn. Because nothing says “survival” like a buttery snack!
Dinner was a culinary delight: soup (again!), chicken pie, mashed potatoes, and veggies, followed by the pièce de résistance—chocolate cake! Unsurprisingly, the cake had a second run on the popularity charts, with many kids going for seconds.
After dinner, we held a quick room inspection, and the staff were seriously impressed by how organised the children were. Amazing skills to admire—once again, parents, make a note!
To cap off the day, we celebrated a birthday with some fun indoor orienteering. The children have shown incredible resilience and daring spirit throughout the day, and their behaviour has been nothing short of exemplary.
As we settle in for hopefully another restful night, it’s safe to say Trewern has become the stuff of legends. Tomorrow awaits with even more adventures
