All of our children have some time in the library to read, experience and explore new books, and to transition into a calm and quiet environment for their development.
During this time, classes use the library for different reasons. Some of our children will read in groups with an adult, looking at picture books, whereas others will let the children choose a book to read quietly to themselves and engage with them at staggered times.
The children really enjoy spending their time in here and looking at books. We have books in class, but some children do not want to access those. Whereas in the library, it is those children who really surprise us and sit looking through books with colour and pictures on every page.
It is lovely to see all the children engage in a different way to the library space. We love taking our classes there.
The children can also take out books each week to bring home and read with adults at home. It gives adults at home a chance to read different books with their children. If this is something you would be interested in, please speak with your class teachers and they will ensure this happens weekly for you.
The books must be returned on their library day for them to swap it with another book. But please feel free to keep the book for a few weeks if your child enjoys reading it, then bring it back to be swapped the following week.
Here are some pictures below of some of our children in the library, sitting and relaxing with different books.
