We had an amazing trip into London this week to visit the Ragged School Museum in Mile End. It was very exciting as we didn’t go on a coach for this trip; we went on the tube instead!
First we had to walk to Becontree station, which didn’t take us too long, but did make us hungry! Luckily most of had brought snacks so we could eat them on the train.
Once we arrived at Mile End it was a short walk through Mile End park and then we arrived at the Museum.
Miss Poole introduced herself to us out of character, and she was very nice. The Miss Poole in character was VERY strict so I’m glad we met her out of character first!
Boys and girls weren’t allowed to sit together and we all had to sit with straight backs. We had to practise handwriting and number formation on slate boards using chalk.
Miss Poole also showed us the back straightener which children were forced to use, after school, if they were slouching on their tables.
Before we knew it, it was time to come back home again but we all had a great time and learnt lots of interesting things about how schools were in Victorian times.
