This week, our Year 5 students had an exciting and inspiring experience with a special visit from author Seth Burkett. Seth shared his journey to becoming an author, captivating the children with stories from his life and offering invaluable insights into the world of writing.
Seth Burkett is an English writer and futsal player and former professional footballer. A defender, Burkett formerly played in Brazil for Sorriso EC, a team in the state league of Mato Grosso. While there, he attracted some attention as the only British footballer playing professionally in Brazil. His unique journey from football to writing gave our students a fascinating perspective on resilience and creativity.
Following the talk, the children took part in a fantastic writing workshop led by Seth. The workshop focused on developing writing techniques and thinking like an author. The children were encouraged to explore their creativity and use literary tools to enhance their writing.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the challenge to choose their personal ‘GOAT’ (Greatest of All Time) and justify their choice using literary tools. The children selected individuals from various fields, such as sports stars, historical figures, and famous authors. They then crafted persuasive pieces of writing, using powerful vocabulary, rhetorical devices, and persuasive techniques to support their arguments.
It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and passionate about their writing. They demonstrated excellent creativity and critical thinking skills while applying what they had learned from Seth.
We are incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown by all the children this week. A huge thank you to Seth Burkett for inspiring our budding writers!
