Last term the children in Reception were working on the topic ‘All about Me, Myself and Everyone’. To end our topic we worked with a specialised art teacher to complete self portraits.
The children started with a black and white photograph of themselves which was cut in half. The children were then encouraged to draw the opposite side of their face thinking about all their features and the positioning of these. They then painted their faces, thinking carefully about the colours.
In the second session the children collaged around their portrait using tissue paper thinking about making secondary colours.
Last week, we held a gallery event which gave the children a purpose and ownership to produce good quality work that they would be proud of to display to an audience.
