Yesterday, the Year 4 Reading Gladiators welcomed Linda Newbery, author of ‘The Brockenspectre’. to our school. During the Spring term they had won her visit in a national competition!
Understandably, the Reading Gladiators were extremely excited and planned her visit, including the finer details such as sandwich fillings, meticulously! When she arrived, the Gladiators escorted her to Mr Campbell’s office and made her feel incredibly welcome. Then, over a tremendous picnic style lunch, in Mr Campbell’s office, Linda answered their questions and talked about her life as an author. It truly was a splendid occasion and she was impressed with both the knowledge of the Gladiators and how courteous they were, demonstrating excellent table manners.
After lunch, she then spoke to Year 4, 5 and 6 children about her life as author and read part of her books ‘The Brockenspectre’ and ‘Lob’. She spoke about having her books published and how she’d shown perseverance when things didn’t always go to plan. Afterwards, those lucky enough to purchase books even got their books signed!
Please take a look at the photographs below and read what our Gladiators thought of her very special visit.
