Following on the heels of our previous experiments, the EAL science team has been learning about shadows and how they can be manipulated just by using some household items.
First our investigators went out in the morning into the playground and with a partner, drew around each other’s silhouette. Just before lunch, they ran the experiment again to see if the results changed at all.
Not only did the result give us good talking points and new words to describe our findings such as shadow, direction and dark, it also ‘shone a light’ on our world and some of its mysteries.
Next we used some items that can easily be found in any household and recreated the story of the gingerbread man. All you need is a white sheet, a torch and some objects to make shadows. We cut around the outline of the characters from the gingerbread man and retold the story. If you think that this looks like fun, why not try and retell your own favourite story at home?
