This week in year 5 PSHE lessons we have been learning how to stand up for someone who is being picked on. We used role-play to practice being upstanders. An upstander is someone who witnesses bullying behaviour and stands up to the bully. We recognise that bullying is something that can happen to a victim repeatedly and not just once. We now know that we can use the phrase “I don’t like the way you are treating (name)” when they see someone being bullied. By calling out a bully on their bad behaviour it will make them think twice about what they are doing and how their actions hurt others.
