Last Friday, we held an end of unit event inviting parents to come in and have lunch with their children in class. This was linked to our topic ‘All About Me’.
The children have been looking at their bodies this term; recognising and labelling body parts, singing songs linked to the body. We have also been looking into who we are, family members and who is at home with us. For this, we decided to invite those adults at home to come in and sit with their children, and have lunch together. We also invited parents to bring any specific food with them that they know the children like, whether this is home made cooked food or for religious purposes.
The teachers already had a nice spread of food and snacks prepared for the children and sett out tables or spaces on the carpet to sit and eat their lunch with their visiting adults. Some teachers put large tablecloths down on the floor to sit on, as well as cushions and pillows, and decorative plants in the centre to add colour to the picnic. Overall, we had nearly half of all children’s parents attend, which is a fantastic turn out! The amount of food brought by parents was such a variety and so different, and it was all put into the middle, being shared out among adults and children to try. This was so kind of parents to make and bring into school, so thank you to those who did!
We would like to give a huge thank you to all the parents who attended the picnic. The children were so overjoyed to see their parents, it was something different that they have not experienced before.
