The year 6 students are hard at work revising for their upcoming SATs exams, but they still have time for a writing project which will be based on the short animated film Alma. Inspired by the film’s eerie and atmospheric storytelling, the children are planning to write their own suspenseful narratives.
In preparation, Year 6 have been exploring how to create tension and mystery in their writing. They are learning how to use descriptive language to bring their stories to life, focusing on evoking the senses — sight, sound, smell and touch — to create vivid, memorable imagery. By carefully choosing words that paint powerful pictures in the reader’s mind, they are working hard to build strong, immersive atmospheres that will grip their audiences from beginning to end.
