This week Year 1 have been enjoying celebrating mental health week. We thought about the things that made us happy and how we can recognise our feelings and find strategies to help us cope with them.
One of our favourite activities this week was called ‘Look how we’ve changed!’. We started by reading the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle and thought about how the caterpillar changed. Then we thought about how we have grown and changed since we were young. We understand we all change at different paces and celebrated our own changes by writing them in our own butterflies.
We also celebrated ‘Safer internet day 2022’ this week with the theme ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and online relationships’. We read the story of ‘Digiduck and the Magic castle’ and explored the different choices Digiduck made. The children were able to identify the good and bad choices and recognised that we need to talk to an adult we trust about things that happen online. Finally we created our own ‘Kindness spell’ with all the ingredients we need to make the internet a kinder place, such as laughter, kindess, manners, friendliness, etc.
To finish off a fantastic week the children will be coming to school on Friday dressed in something that makes them happy. We are all excited to see the wonderful outfits to make us all smile!
