This month to celebrate black history month we have been learning about Claudia Jones. Claudia was born in Trinidad in 1915, she came to England in 1955. She was an activist and journalist and she spent most of her life fighting for equal rights for the black community. In 1959 Claudia organised a Caribbean Carnival in response to the Notting Hill riots of 1958. She wanted to celebrate Caribbean culture. This later became The Notting Hill Carnival. To celebrate her achievements, we did a biography of her life, made carnival masks and designed costumes to wear at the carnival. We have enjoyed learning about this amazing woman.
The Year 2 teachers just wanted to say how proud we are of how hard the children have worked this half term. It has been lovely getting to know you all and we are looking forward to working with you over the course of the year. Have a lovely half term break!
