Last week as part of science week, the Nursery children observed the changes that occur when eggs are placed into different liquids. We placed whole eggs into milk, vinegar, water, orange juice and coke and then we predicted what would happen to the eggs. Some children thought that baby chicks would hatch from the eggs, while others thought that the eggs would pop and a bird would come out and fly away. Some children predicted that some eggs would crack and break up and disappear like magic.
Each day children touched and examined the eggs and commented on what they saw. On the Friday we discussed the changes that had occurred and cracked open the eggs to see what was happening inside. The egg in vinegar was cooked inside and the shell was very soft. The egg that was in coke changed the colour of the egg shell and the egg in milk had lumpy bits stuck on it.
Everybody was excited to observe the changes and discuss the changes they noticed.
