Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful Easter break, and ready to get back to structure and normality of school for this final term. The first part of our Summer term is focussing on the topic, ‘Growing’. The books we will be reading will be ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’. We will also be looking into growing cress, possibly some vegetables and exploring plants in different ways over the next four to six weeks, and we will share some of these with you here as the weeks progress.

To begin with, we have settled the children in quickly, jumping straight into our usual routines and lessons. As you can see below from two classes this week, they have been looking at the new book for this term, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. This topic is fully of colourful and wonderful foods to experiment with, along with a catchy storyline that the children can enjoy. We have also brought in a pot of caterpillars, where we will watch them grow, and hopefully and eventually, turn into butterflies! The children will be coming over to see these caterpillars as the weeks go on, watching how they change shape and size.

So far, we have had children making caterpillars using green grapes and skewers. Each grape represent each part of the body, and then finishing it off with a small red grape for the head. They look fantastic, and the children really enjoyed making this, engaging with the task throughout.

Another class have been using green paint to show the caterpillar getting bigger by using numbers from 1 to 10. They used their fingers to mark make each spot. It became slightly messy, but they came out really well, with the children counting well to show the size of caterpillar increasing each time.

We will be sharing pictures of the children exploring the caterpillars in their pot next week.
