As part of our cooking lesson this week, we made a healthy fruit salad.
Children helped cut up fruits such as bananas, apples and even peeled some delicious, juicy oranges.
By children engaging with this task, their personal, social and emotional skills were developed by providing opportunities for exploration, developing skills and their confidence.
Other areas of development included were:
Health and self-care
Children made healthy choices in relation to eating and exercise.
Exploring and using materials
Children used simple tools and techniques competently and appropriately.
Physical development
Fine motor and eye-hand coordination skills were developed by chopping, mixing, squeezing, and spreading.
Children also wrote a shopping list of their own and wrote what they would choose at the supermarket.
Take a look at some of the fruits children chose for their own shopping list.
Literacy
Children used their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds.
