We’re back! Although slightly fewer in numbers, Year 6 returned to school today and got stuck back into learning.
This afternoon we launched our topic, Olympics: Going for Gold. We learnt how to play Goalball, a Paralympic sport for blind and partially-sighted sportspeople. To ensure equity, all players have to wear a blindfold during the game, which is played in silence, in which opposing teams try to school a goal by rolling a ball with bells in. The defending team tries to save the ball by diving to block it from going into the goal.
Players have to use other senses to compensate from the loss of sight. They use touch to work out which direction they need to roll the ball and sound to work out which direction to jump for their saves.
