Yesterday marked Holocaust Memorial Day. The day commemorates all the lives lost through genocide (mass killings of people belonging to one race/ sharing a similar view). The 27th January was chosen as it was the day that people who were detained in Auschwitz Concentration Camp were liberated during Second World War in 1945. Yesterday the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust were encouraging everyone to place a lighted candle in one of the windows of their house. Here our some photos of the candles our year 6 children lit.
