This week as part of our Egyptian curriculum topic, we have been learning all about mummification!
We have learnt how they cleaned the body first, took out their organs and put them into canopic jars, rubbed the body is salt to help preserve it and then finally wrapped it with linin material. Only the rich people were able to do this as it was an expensive thing to have done! They believed their body should look as good as possible when they enter the after life.
We had a go our selves at this! (Not literally of course!). We used dolls as our bodies, we washed their bodies, placed organs on them and then used cocktail sticks as if they were our sharp instruments, and places them in the canopic jars, then rubbed the bodies with salt and finally wrapped them up ad put on their death masks!
It was an amazing activity which we all really loved doing!
