This week in Reception, the children have been learning about investigating materials. The children were given an array of materials such as foil, cork, fabric, and cotton. They were then tasked to explore the materials through touch, smell, and playing with the material.
Some of the children chose to crumple the paper, some chose to rip it, and some chose to cover the objects with foil to create a pattern.
The children then had a chance to come up to the class and discuss why they chose their objects and also described them. We were able to conclude that some of the materials were softer then others, while some like the aluminium foil began as shiny, but when crumpled became sharp. They really showed their creativity.
