Year 5 have been learning the song ‘Joyful, Joyful’ having watched one of the most well known versions of the song from the movie Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit. The movie also features the legendary Grammy Award-winning singer and rapper, Lauryn Hill.
Year 5 learnt that the song was originally a poem written by Henry Van Dyke Jr in 1907. Van Dyke was inspired to write the lyrics after visiting the beautiful landscapes of the Berkshire Hills in Massachusetts. He was also inspired by Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 and decided to set his lyrics to Beethoven’s melody, Ode To Joy. Year 5 also learnt that this song is a Gospel song and that Gospel is a style of Christian worship music.
Below you can listen to 5G perform part of the song with an incredible solo, not to be missed! You can also listen to 5D performing an instrumental as a class to a new pop song we have started learning called ‘The sparkle in my life’.
