This week was the making part of year 2’s DT project where they have been finding out about axles. The children worked in teams to research, brainstorm ideas, consider and select materials to suit their design purpose, plan as strategy, then work together to make their vehicles that could move.
Year 6 also practiced various techniques using charcoal. Having looked at creating thoughtful compositions last time, this week they focussed on creating accurate shape and tone by adding dark, mid tones and highs after sketching shapes and measuring. They attempted to use layering to create great volume to their pieces. Some chose to also focus on smooth blends, while others wanted to create high contrasting pieces but bold dark, mid and high tones.
