This week, year 6 started a new maths topic – measurement. To help improve the children’s perception of weight (mass) and what a container can hold (capacity) Mr Marshall designed a special lesson. The children were shown every-day food items with the weight/capacity covered up. After estimating what each item weighted/contained, the answers were revealed. Once they had the answers, the children were given multistep word problems to work out using the information they had gathered. This was excellent practice for the SATs reasoning papers they will be facing in May.
