This half term Year 2 have been learning about ‘People in the past’. As part of this topic we have found out about nurses from the past who have influenced nurses today. These have included: Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell. To finish off our topic we have decided to do something to support the amazing nurses that we have today.
During the past year nurses and the NHS have been have played a cruicial part in supporting us all through the pandemic. The Cavell Trust charity operates in honour of Edith Cavell and raises funds to support nurses, midwives and HCAs in the UK.
On Monday 19th July the children will be completing a sponsored walk to raise money for the Cavell Trust. The children will be walking approximately the same distance a nurse walks during one shift (8000 steps or 4 miles). The children are extremely excited to be able to do something that will make a difference to lives of nurses who have made a difference to so many people.
