The weather is beginning to turn, and the colder, rainy days are coming. We understand how important learning through play is to our children here in the ARP, and we will continue this into the colder months.

Saying this, we are trying to enjoy the last few weeks of warm weather and spending as much time as we can outside with our learning and play. We try to set out a range of sensory activities for the children, as well as designated areas that we think the children in each class will enjoy playing with, for example; construction areas, role play areas or turn taking activities.

The children will not always be drawn to every activity or task we put out, but having the option to explore is important as the range of activities can help encourage them to do so.

We also wanted to share a lovely activity the children participated in with our cooking and food exploration sessions. The children were using biscuits and crackers for a ‘Biscuit Body Building’ activity. This wonderful activity is linked to our overall theme this half term of ‘Our Body’. The children used crackers and biscuits for the body and head, and then bread sticks for arms and legs. Some were even creative to add hair to their biscuit body.

An activity like this has two supportive meanings. We understand that many of our children we work with find it hard to eat or try new foods. And an activity like this is a way to engage them with their learning, but also a way to introduce them to new or different foods. Sometimes the children can taste the food types at the end of the activity, giving them the opportunity to try these food sources. It is also a nice way to keep your children engaged and exploring foods more often at home too. So please do feel free to try this at home.
