The ARP have been celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as this historical day is one not to be missed. We celebrated this on Friday 27th May before breaking up for half term. We thought it would be nice to celebrate this at school with the children so they were involved in some celebrations at school.
Throughout the day, the children were participating in activities linked to the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, such as; making bunting with the children to put up around their classroom, making crowns for the children to wear at their Jubilee lunch event, and decorating Union Jack flags to hold and wave around outside.
During lunch times, the children had a wonderful picnic outside together on the grass. They were each asked to bring in a sandwich to sit on the grass with their friends and enjoy their food and flags, whilst wearing their hats. They were also provided with treats from the staff to enjoy during this picnic, which the children really seemed to enjoy. We tried to set up a ‘Street Party’ themed lunch where classes sat in a long line together. It worked extremely well and all the staff pulled together to make it wonderful for the children.
We were also wearing the colours blue, white and red to represent the colours found on the Union Jack flag. Again, most of the children wore these colours which was nice to see them enjoying. We had a lovely day sitting outside together. It was different to eat our lunch outside and have different food we wouldn’t usually have for school lunches, and to be dressed in non-uniform. It was a memorable day!
