This week, in English, Year 4 took part in a ‘Reader’s theatre’, which involved working in a group to perform a text.
The children began marking or highlighting parts of the text, indicating the phrases or sections to be read by individuals or by several members of the group. This enabled them to bring out the meanings, pattern and characterisation. They were encouraged to add creative touches, such as actions and sound effects, to bring the story to life!
Then the children rehearsed their script in class and performed it to one another. After each performance, they gave each other constructive criticism on their acting, saying what their strengths were and areas for improvement.
