This week we introduced nursery to recognising simple patterns around us. Through understanding patterns, children learn to make predictions, understand what comes next and to make connections.
Children made patterns using their bodies e.g. tap your head, shoulders, head, shoulders and then extending to head, shoulders, knees, head, shoulders, knees. Children asked to think about what would come next. Children then had a chance to make their own patterns using actions.
We then made lego towers using repeated colours. Children really enjoyed this activity and enjoyed saying what their pattern was to their friends. Children also consolidated their new learning by play a ‘finish the sequence’ game on the touch screen in the nursery.
