We were delighted to welcome the children back for the start of the summer term. To kick off their learning, the children began exploring electricity in science. They first learned about electrical appliances and discovered that they can be either mains powered or battery powered. The children learned the definitions of an appliance – something that uses electricity to work – and a circuit – a path through which electricity flows.
They then investigated the different components of a circuit, such as wires, bulbs, batteries, buzzers, and switches, learning how each part works and fits together. The children had lots of fun making their own circuits and enjoyed testing them to see if they worked. It was lovely to see them helping and supporting each other throughout the activity.
Moving forward, the children will go on to learn about conductors and insulators, and will begin to discuss and solve problems about electricity using their reasoning skills.
