It has been another busy week of exciting art and delicious design technology:
Year 1 have investigated materials and tools used for sewing and developed some less common fine-motor skills, with the aim of applying them next half term into puppet-making. The children learned about health and safety as well as some theory involved with sewing, while testing out their ability to thread a needle as well as trying out ‘running stitch’ and ‘crossover stitch’.
Year 2 continued with their creation of a large painting in the style of Roy Lichtenstein (if you would like to read more bout him please follow the link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Lichtenstein). Watch this space.
Year 3 practiced the use of charcoal to create pictures in the style of prehistoric cave paintings as well as went on to create their own paints with gathered materials.
Year 4 began a 3-part series of lessons that develops their understanding of pattern. They made their own ink print blocks and then explored increasingly intricate ways of printing patterns involving symmetry, rotational symmetry as well as the use of repeated contrasting shapes and colours to aid in visual attraction.
Year 5 designed and made biscuits, all with modified recipes of their own team’s choosing that suited a brand and target audience. With time constraints, the children were able to successfully all use teamwork to create a fantastic product that they (mostly) said was delicious, with great texture, that also met their design brief.
Year 6 tried their hand at sculpting clay. Referring to previous learning around the artist Kathe Kollwitz, who was able to create intricate facial expressions in her artwork, the children attempted to apply their understanding, while attempting to explore and try out new sculpting techniques and tools.
