This week both year 1 and year 2 explored texture with year 1 making textured marks onto observational drawings with the aim to create more realistic drawings that include detail. Year 2 practiced taking rubbings of textured objects with chalks and went on a discovery walk trying to find man made and natural textured surfaces.

Year 3 continued to develop their understanding of sketching shape and well as the use of guidelines to help accurately draw still life objects before adding details.

Year 4 investigated the properties of materials, identifying possible advantages and disadvantages of their use in creating casings for torches.

Year 5 used Mayan art, including Wayobs (https://kids.kiddle.co/Wayob), as a starting point to consider symbolic images that they could use to describe their personalities through visual representation.

Year 6 began an art unit that will culminate in the making of a memory box (please bring in many shoeboxes as we need around 90!) to help represent their personalities and memories of primary school as they come to the end of their time here. The first session involved an open-ended sculpting session where the children had no set end result, but many options of media to use and combine while thinking about their personalities.
