For Black History Month, year five learned about Britain’s connection to the Caribbean, including the Windrush generation. Between 1948 and 1970, nearly half a million people moved from the Caribbean to Britain to help rebuild the country after the second world war. It was an enlightening month which led to meaningful discussions and questions. Over the month, we looked and footage from the time, photos, poetry and learnt about the experiences of the Windrush generation.
Below is a performance of the poem “Back Home” written by the poet Theophina Garbiel, and was inspired by the migration of people from the Caribbean to the UK. We hope you enjoy.
