Year 4 have been using the mastery approach in Maths. This entails using practical resources, visual images and tables and charts to deepen children’s understanding of a topic and equip them with multiple mental models to support their thinking. For instance, using the place value chart really cemented our understanding of place value. In this way, the children were able to work with numbers in their ten thousands. This approach to teaching maths is proving to be very enjoyable for the children.
