On Monday, the ARP had a visit from Wellgate Community Farm as part of our end of topic event ‘On the Farm’, where the children had the chance to see, pat, groom and feed some of the animals on show.

The animals that the farm brought along were; sheep, goats, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs. All the animals were calm and well behaved, and didn’t mind being petted, or put onto a child’s lap to hold and stroke for a short time. It was amazing to see a side to the children where they were overjoyed to witness these animals and spend time with them. The farm staff let the children into the pen with the goats and the sheep, if the children felt comfortable enough, and even groom the sheep with the combs.

The smiles from the children, whether they were inside or outside the pens was magical! Not all children were too keen, which is understandable, but they watched from a comfortable distance that they were happy with, which we respected.

The farm staff , Rakhi and James, who attended were extremely calm and patient with the children throughout the day. They used simple language that the children could understand, very warm smiles and welcoming manner. All ARP staff here at Monteagle would like to say a huge thank you to Rakhi and James for this amazing day, as well as the farm for visiting and being so accommodating.
