This week in reception, we read the story ‘What the ladybird heard’ written by Julia Donaldson and illustrations done by Lydia Monks.. After listening to the story, all children participated in a variety of activities based around the theme of this book. All the children went for minibeasts hunt and found many minibeasts in the playground. They were very elated when they spotted ladybirds, snails, worms, wood louse and butterflies. They learnt many facts about a variety of minibeasts and after doing their observations they also had the tactile experience with a few of them.
They were able to recap the story and also acted out as the animals from the book. During child-initiated play, children created their own version of a farm including their chosen animals and some children even drew their own map from the book, just like the robbers, ‘Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len’ did. Children enjoyed all the child-initiated activities and all the table activities set up during the week.
Children even created their own ladybirds. Take a look at the photos and you will be able to see how much fun all the reception children had this week.
