This week Reception children have been reading the book,’ Whatever Next’, written by Jill Murphy. This book is beautifully illustrated picture book and is about a baby bear who wishes to travel to the moon. So, the baby bear searches around the house until he finds a rocket (a cardboard box), a space-helmet (a colander) and space-boots (his wellies). All set, he blasts off out of the chimney and into the night. On his way, baby bear meets a friendly owl, who also joins the baby bear to visit the moon. Together, they soar high into the night sky until finally they reach the moon and have a picnic there!
Reception children got highly inspired by baby bear’s idea of going to the moon, so all of them designed their own rockets and also did many writing and creative activities. Many children while designing their rockets commented that instead of going to the moon, they would very much love to travel to Saturn, Uranus, Mars, Neptune and even to Pluto! All the children thought hard and during group discussions, discussed what they would like to carry along during their visit to the space! All the children worked hard, had loads of fun and it was a very busy week indeed!
