Our focus for Black History Month is Jazz through the War. To enrich our learning we invited Rick Simpson, who is a jazz pianist, to school to host a Jazz workshop for the Y6 children.
The children had lots of fun taking part in different jazz activities. The children learned how to recognise a jazz beat and identify improvised music. Also, the children participated in a scat performance – scat singing is vocal improvisation with wordless vocables. The children had a wonderful experience. Mr Simpson was impressed with the children’s musical abilities.
