Year 2 spent the first part of this year thinking about nutrition. They learned about what food groups exist and how to categorise them; they learned out the health benefits of each group as well as what proportions of each group they should eat to have a balanced diet.
From there, the children took on the role of food designers where they tasted and inspected different breads, deciding which types had suitable properties to make a pizza base. They also tasted a variety of different healthy pizza toppings, many discovering new fruits of vegetables that they liked. Once pizzas were designed, the children went on to make the pizzas, aiming to closely follow their designs and evaluated their success based upon the results.
…then they ate them!
