This past term, our year 2s embarked on an exciting journey through the world of paper sculpting, where they learned about various artists who use paper as their primary medium. This unit not only sparked their creativity but also introduced them to important concepts in art and design.

Discovering Paper Artists
We kicked off the unit by exploring the work of renowned paper artists. The children were inspired by their innovative techniques and imaginative creations. This exposure allowed them to appreciate the versatility of paper and how it can transform into something extraordinary.

Rolling into Creativity
Next, the students delved into the art of rolling paper. They experimented with different types of paper, discovering how various textures and weights could create contrasting effects. The highlight of this activity was crafting unique tower scenes, where each child’s creativity shone through their use of rolled paper techniques.

Folding, Twisting, and Bending
As their skills progressed, the children learned to fold, twist, and bend strips of paper to create intricate designs. This hands-on experience encouraged them to think critically about patterns and how to manipulate paper to achieve their desired results. The variations in the patterns added depth to their artworks, making each piece a reflection of their individual style.

Diving into Papier Mâché
To round off our unit, the children were introduced to the fascinating world of papier mâché. Using balloons as a base, they created stunning planet sculptures. This activity allowed them to experiment with mixing and applying paint, thinking carefully about colours and textures to bring their planets to life. Watching their creativity unfold was truly a joy!

Celebrating Creativity
Throughout this unit, our students not only developed their artistic skills but also gained confidence in expressing themselves through their artwork. We encourage you to ask them about their favorite techniques and what inspired them during this creative exploration.
